Robe à la Turque

The robes Françaises have been succeeded by the Polonaises, the Polonaises by the Lévites, the Lévites by the robes à l'Anglaise and à la Turque. In this latter fashion a pretty woman, whether in a Show or in the Seats, wins triumphs surer and more agreeable than those of a Georgian or Circassian woman in the Harems of Constantinople. Comme cette description l'indique, il est clair que les Françaises sont supérieures, en particulier aux femmes «orientales». En s'appropriant leur culture et en la mélangeant aux côtés de la mode française, les femmes françaises se sont avérées être plus intelligentes que les femmes de «l'Orient». En fait, leur beauté est plus grande encore que celle de la Sultane. Ainsi, le mélange du français et de «Oriental» est une norme de beauté qui est bien supérieure à celle qui est simplement «française» ou «orientale». Les Françaises ont combiné le meilleur des deux cultures et, peut-être pour la première fois, les femmes sont considérées comme supérieures dans un certain domaine.
